Orville and Wilbur Wright are remembered as the inventors of the airplane! These American brothers built on the work of others but also conducted their own research and hundreds of experiments to create a ‘flying machine’ that could really fly. On December 17th, 1903, the Wright brothers made the first successful manned flight of a heavier-than-air craft under its own power outside of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
